Conor's Crispy Honey Chilli Chicken

Well Foodies this was truly divine! Another homemade fast food recipe and I think this one is even tastier, however I must stress, this is NOT a healthy dish...just a really really tasty one; scrumptious if you will!!!

Below you will find what you need to make this dish (The sauce is soooo easy) and a step by step guide on how to make it!

And please remember, if you make this dish, take a snap, or even better a selfie and send it to me, all creations go on the websites gallery; so get cooking!!!

What you will need (serves 2)

For the chicken;

- 2 x chicken breasts

- Some soy sauce - dark or light whichever you prefer

- 1 Tbsp Chinese 5 spice

- 1 Tbsp of Red Chilli Paste (in a tube - you don't need to make your own)

- Sesame seeds

- 1 egg

- Flour (plain or corn)

- 1 Spring Onion

- Vegetable Oil/Rapeseed Oil/Olive Oil

- Salt & Pepper

For the Sauce;

- Sweet Chilli Sauce

- Honey

Yip, that's it!

Method

1. Cut you chicken into thin strips, about 1cm thick, the thinner they are the crispier the chicken will be (and the tastier)

2. Put chicken in a bowl and add 1 tbsp of Chinese 5 Spice, 1 tbsp of Soy Sauce, 1 tbsp of the Red Chilli Paste and season with salt and pepper

3. Crack an egg into the bowl and mix everything together and let the chicken marinate for 5 minutes

4. While the chicken is marinating you can make the sauce, pour some Sweet Chilli Sauce into a bowl, don't go mad as this is more of a coating than a sauce, I used about 100 grams of my 380 gram bottle (I know, weird that it's measured in grams???)

5. Add 2 tbsp of honey to the Sweet Chilli Sauce and mix together - That is the sauce done!!! Easy

6. Return to the bowl with all the ingredients, add some flour to it and begin stirring the mixture, you want to add enough flour to coat all the chicken so that it crispens up!

7. Put your oil of choice in a deep pan, or Wok (buy a Wok) and heat on high, when the oil is hot enough start to pick out you strips of coated chicken and place in the oil, ideally you want most or all of the chicken to be in oil to get a better crisp!

8. Cook Chicken for about 7-9 minutes to allow it to cook through!

9. While the chicken is cooking (frying) put your sesame seeds in a pan and gently cook until they go golden brown (about 2 min) this will add a different texture to the dish and will bring a little smokiness and nutty flavour to it!

10. Once your chicken is cooked, remove from the heat using a slotted spoon and dry on some paper towels

11. Once dry add the chicken to the pan again and add your sauce, cook for a further 2 minutes and serve with either rice or noodles - you pick ;)

12. To finish the dish, cut up your spring onion, and scatter over the chicken along with the toasted sesame seeds!

Tuck in & Enjoy!
