It's been two weeks since my last blog, mostly because Lent has started and my goal this year is to cook more homemade meals over Lent rather than eat out so much...so far it has been hard but this wee treat definitely made my weekend easier!
2016 is the NI Year of Food & Drink, and part of this is celebrating home and local produce! This year is a chance for each and every one of us to enjoy our wonderful country and the treats it has to offer. Not only do we nuture World Champion boxers but we also produce some of the tastiest food in the world, but both are developed using same core ingredients; hard work and passion!
February is local produce month so I decided to try out one of our newest food experiences 'Pizzado'.
Karen Boyd is a local lady intent on going global with her new, easy to make home pizza kit 'Pizzado' It is a kit which is not only great fun but tastes amazing too! Currently available in certain Tesco NI stores, which is a feat in itself this kit allows you to bring a little bit of Italy into your Northern Irish home.
The Kit costs £5.00 and for that you get 2 doughballs (def the best bit...soo authentic) which you have to stretch, roll and toss yourself into two 9" pizzas. The kit also supplies you with 2 packets of local mozzarella, 2 satchets of tomato pizza base and some spicy pepperoni but the options are endless, I decided to pick up some Denny Ham and a packet of Mushrooms to create two different pizzas!
This is the Kit - it can be found in the frozen aisle of local Tesco stores, a top tip is to buy it the night before and let the dough defrost over night in a air tight container!!!
My Efforts
Pizza is my favourite food, unfortunately Laurie isn't so keen so when she headed out for the night with her Uni friends; Fi, Christine, Sharon and Cathy it gave me a chance to turn my kitchen into a pizza shop!
I made two pizzas...not because I am greedy but because Daniel (if you've visited the website you will know him) was calling up! The first pizza I made was Pepperoni as this came with the product, and as already mentioned the second was Ham and Mushroom. I must admit the best part was stretching and trying to shape the dough! As the pictures prove, I have not mastered this art! But it shoudn't be perfectly round, it should just be good fun and tasty and that's exactly what it was, the base crisped up and tasted sooo good, much much better than any frozen pizza which you could buy and even better than most fast food pizzas if I'm honest, for me the base was the star of the show.
Why buy Pizzado?
I don't have any Human Kids, only The Pugs, Harry and Nelson but what a great idea this is for some family bonding, rather than just eat together you can create together. It would also be a great idea for a child's birthday party or even just to kill a few hours during a sleep over. I remember cooking Stew Soup with my mum, helping her cut the veg and make the stock and this is a real chance for you to make some new memories, and so what if your pizza isn't round (I found it hard to get it perfectly round) I bet it will still taste good!
P.S. There's a gluten free option available ;)
