Spar-B-Q

I started this blog just to have a place to talk about my love of food, cooking and dining out in Belfast. I'm not massive drinker and I'd much rather spend a few quid on a fancy meal than wake up £80 lighter, dignity missing and frantically checking which Pizza companies deliver before noon!

To be honest the blog has grown quicker than I first imagined which is a lot down to you the followers who like, engage and importantly share my posts (sharing is important because Facebook are now trying to charge me per post!!! which I find crazy as I do this because I enjoy it, not because it financially benefits me, so it actually costs me sometimes to post!) Grrrrr.....

Anyway I have been lucky enough to be invited to a few events since the blog started which is great and on the 25th May I was invited by JPR to attend the SparNI All American Spar-B-Q (cool name) Laurie was at her Primal WonderWoman program so I took the Mother-In-Law, Carol to this one! (she's not a bad mother in law and she has promised to buy me a new watch for mentioning her) The event was hosted by The National Belfast and it was to promote the great things SparNI do for the Local Food Industry and to introduce us to their new yummy Local Products!!

So at the event we had local Celeb Chef Paula McIntyre at the BBQ cooking us a plethora of barbecued goodies including grilled FC Robinson Sausages & pork chops, McAtamney sirloin steaks cooked in BBQ glaze and smoky Rockvale chicken!

All this meaty goodness was accompanied by a mixture of breads including traditional Cornbread (twas mighty tasty) and some salads including the most amazing polenta salad, some Southern slaw and hot potato salad!

Throughout the event local band Saffyre entertained us with an array of covers with their own unique twist and we were served Backyard Brandys (Def worth another trip to The National) and all this while the JPR staff and Eurospar & SparNI ambassadors mingled between us and gave us all the info we needed! I also met a few new friends including Ruth from @WillowLaneBlog and Ian from @roguesnbrouges!

The quality of the food was super, it was tasty, it was local and it is available now at local Spars, and with the weather we currently have what better excuse to have your own Backyard BBQ with a hint of local goodiness!!! Enjoy our 6 day summer peeps!!
