NO, you didn't read that wrong, there really is a free fry on offer! We are fast approaching one of the busiest times of the year; Fresher's Week, a time when the young become adults, when parents let go of their offspring and when Student Loans are used for anything but academic purposes.
Well if you fall into the category of 'Fresher' I have something that might interest you! The Other Place on Botanic are holding a Man V Food Challenge- can you beat the BellyBuster? The rules are simple - finish the fry in 90 seconds and you don't pay a penny.
Now when I heard of this I just had to give it a go, so along with fellow NI food blogger, The Bowtie Blogger I headed for Botanic, belly empty and aching for food I ordered the BellyBuster - but could I complete the task? You'll find out later in the blog.
So along with the food challenge the Other Place is also offering a host of other delights that may appeal to you - and you don't even have to be a fresher for these, see below;
I think my fav is TOSS UP TUESDAY where with the simple flick of a coin you could get 50% off your bill - now I've been a student, not an overly successful one but I did learn one thing - money can be tight so if I have the chance to get a fry for free or 50% off my bill I'd jump at it!
The restaurant itself is under new management - new owner Richard Walker (once a student who frequently visited The Other Place) has bought over the business and student friendly renovations are already under way - think comfy seats, funky tablets and most importantly phone charger sockets which will all give this place an added reason to visit. Along with this there has been a staff overhaul so things are really looking up for this student hotspot - food and a phone charge, what more do you want...a free fry, well ok then, oh and why not wash it down with a wee drink or seven, it's Bring Your Own - saving grace for all students

So back to the challenge - my BellyBuster arrived - 90 seconds later I had ferociously shovelled one egg, half a sausage, one bacon rasher and about 8 mushrooms into me but I just couldn't finish it on time, Michael AKA The Bowtie Blogger was also completing the challenge, 90 seconds later he was still cutting his young son's breakfast up for him, family before glory - what a man!

So I slowed my food consumption up and returned to my fry - I must admit, I wasn't expecting the fry to taste as good as it did, the chips especially were fantastic - I enquired, they are steamed, boiled and then cooked, quite a lot of work for a bowl of chips but most definitely worth it! I must admit though that I couldn't even finish the entire fry, Michael did better and scoffed the lot...
In a time when you will make many a mistake, be it educationally or alcoholically induced don't let missing The Other Place be one - Fresh Food, Fantastic Prices and Fresher Friendly, this isn't just any other place - It's The Other Place!
