A doorway into Westeros - via the North Coast

Glenara Elite Travel have teamed up with local historian, food enthusiast and all round funny gal Caroline Redmond to bring you - The Game of Thrones Doors & Food Tour'. This is your chance to visit a host of popular establishments, indulge in some tasty local treats, sample a host of craft beers and explore the newly carved Game of Thrones Doors.

Background

On the 29th January 2016 storm Gertrude hit our beautiful country and with it brought winds of 144 mph - this was more than enough to damage our iconic Dark Hedges - or as you may know it, Kingsroad! Getrude ripped through the dark hedges felling 2 and damaging a third - ever the optimists us Northern Irish folk didn't grieve for two long and instead saw a new tourist opportunity - and so we have Game of Thrones Doors - 10 intricately carved doors, depicting iconic scenes from episodes of season 6.

The Experience

Our meeting point was the Lodge House Hotel in Coleraine - here we were treated to a range of house brewed cocktails,a plethora of canapés and we got to meet Frances Galbraith - the CEO of Glenara Elite Travel, a passionate local, a popular business lady and a lovely women. After a few snaps we were on our way.

Our tour would take us on an alcohol fuelled journey around the Antrim coast to visit 4 of the GOT Doors - our locations revealed we headed to our first stop... I don't want to give too much away regarding what happened at each of the venues but each was different, each provided food and each had it's own sense fun and enjoyment - oh and each had one of the famous doors.

The Verdict

What a great way to spend a friday night - for just £50 per person you get a night filled of food, history and fun. I got to sample beers such as Raithlin Red, try the most succulent ribs this side of New Orleans and I actually got to sit on the Iron Throne - which technically means I now rule the 7 kingdoms - you can call me King Conor of Lisburnoniath

Who would this tour suit?

Foodies - if like me you like your food you won't be disappointed, local breads, seafood chowder and spicy chicken wings are just a few of the delights on offer

Historians - Get an insight into the Antrim coast, hear the ghost stories that haunt the local fields, & meet genuine locals with stories only they can tell

Game of Thrones Fans - what better way to add to you knowledge than to visit set locations, see the official GOT Doors and talk to the owners about their history

What a great christmas present this would be - I know I'd rather have this than another pair of socks or that jumper that you 'thought' I'd like - get yourself over to Glenara Elite Travel and get booking - I reckon these will book up quick so don't hold the door on this one and get booking
