Food on a Hill - what's your angle?

So I recently visited the Hillside Bar & Restaurant (many thanks to MCE PR for organizing) which is located in Hillsborough village, you guessed it, on a Hill! The Hillside itself is, well its , mmmm; in-fact - let's just let the Hillside tell you what it is;

"The Hillside is a charming, rustic pub situated in the historic Georgian village of Hillsborough, County Down, only 15 minutes drive from Belfast city centre. The Hillside first opened its doors to patrons in 1752 and has been enjoying a busy trade ever since thanks to our excellent food and drinks selection and our friendly, welcoming service. We are renowned for our roaring open fires in the winter and our pretty cobble stoned beer garden in the summer." (from their website)

Ok so my night was a little more rainy and dark but this image captures the Hillside really well

Chestnuts roasting on an ope...too soon?

Did I mention it's dog friendly....I got overly excited about this

This is a fantastically accurate description, imagine heading to your Granny's house on a wet wintery night to tuck into a bowl of homemade stew, in front of an open fire while you dog lays beside the hearth and you're pretty much in the front room of the Hillside, and yes, it is dog friendly! Id say cats are welcome too...

So beyond the front room which house a bar, open fire and the nook and you make your way to the newly refurbished restaurant - here is where my grub adventure began - I took notes while there, here they are!

Hillside

- Excellent menu - I'd eat every single starter without hesitation, except for the mussels as I don't comprehend how anyone can eat these wee things (personal choice folks - if you like mussels go for it- enjoy) I also may have used a different word to 'things' but I'll keep it clean

- I let the weather dictate my food tonight - it was rainy outside and there was the howl of a wind brewing up, I wanted comfort food, I got it!

- Starter - Walnut Coated Brie - say no more, "waiter, I'm ready"

- Main - the matter of fact is; if it has Ultimate in the title, I'm ordering it ( it was a burger btw)

- I got good food sweats

- This menu deserves an OBE

- I drooled eating my dessert

So Check out all the food pics here, scroll down and weep with joy, go on....

Yes that brie ooze is quite seductive, thank you

The word Ultimate was a fitting adjective - I destroyed this

Is that a full fish?

My roulade and Laurie's Oero Cheescake, yip - these desserts had me...

I don't think I can say much more, except, I saw the Christmas menu, I enjoyed myself tonight, a lot, an awful lot, I've booked back in on the 23rd December! Here's the link to their Winter Menu to get you salivating like an over excited bulldog!
